The Harvard College Mock Trial Association is dedicated to furthering a passion for trial advocacy and the law at Harvard College. We are a student-run group which competes regionally and nationally in competitions organized by the American Mock Trial Association. These competitions consist of trying legal cases in front of real judges and attorneys. We seek to enhance and apply its members' acute analytical reasoning, strategic thinking and rhetorical skills.
From materials given to us by the American Mock Trial Association, we write plaintiff/prosecution and defense cases to compete with other collegiate teams across the country. Harvard Mock Trial Association also hosts its own invitational tournament in the fall -- the Boston Tea Party -- and runs its own high school seminar program -- the Angela R. Mathew Seminar Program.
As such, HMTA does not require membership dues. All team-related expenses are covered by the program.

Meeting new students with shared interest
Membership in HMTA shall be open to all Harvard College undergraduates in good standing. No one shall be denied membership in HMTA on the basis of race, creed, color, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, legal status, physical disability, or any protected class.
A. New members will be selected from the pool of applicants via a tryout process during the first month of the academic year.
B. A competing member shall be defined as a member who competed or time kept in a tournament with HMTA in that academic year.
C. In any given semester, any competing member, or any officer in the Executive Board, shall qualify as an active member.
D. An alumnus shall be defined as any former member who graduates as an active or inactive member in good standing.
E. Any member may resign from the program at any time by means of written confirmation to the Executive Board, at which time the person is no longer a member.
