About Us

The intent and purpose of the Harvard College Debating Union (HCDU, formerly the Harvard Speech and Parliamentary Debate Society) is to develop and pursue excellence in debate in the Harvard community, and to represent Harvard University in intercollegiate parliamentary debate competitions. In addition, HCDU will seek to sponsor, organize, and run events and programs that make accessible the benefits of public speaking and debate to wider society (including, but not limited to, organizing competitions in collegiate and high school formats, demonstration debates, and community service projects).
