We are Harvard Undergraduate Mind Brain Behavior,
the undergraduate branch of the Mind Brain Behavior Interfaculty Initiative.

The Mind Brain Behavior Interfaculty Initiative (MBB) was introduced in 1993 to encourage an interdisciplinary community of faculty from across the University to engage in research and other academic activities aimed at elucidating the structure, function, evolution, development, aging, and pathology of the brain in the context of human behavior, genetics, and society.

Harvard Undergraduate Mind Brain Behavior (MBB) is a vibrant undergraduate community that brings together students passionate about an interdisciplinary approach to understanding mind, brain, and behavior, regardless of their concentration.

In response to an explosion of interest in the university-wide Mind, Brain, and Behavior (MBB) INTERFACULTY initiative, HUMBB was officially formed in the fall of 2002. We promote multidisciplinary dialogue about, awareness of, and interest in topics related to cognitive science, while working to provide a sense of community among students interested in these topics.

Our Initiatives

Cognitive science is a highly interdisciplinary field. Accordingly, HUMBB represents a wide variety of academic interests, ranging from artificial intelligence to cognitive neuropsychology to behavioral economics.

  • Lectures

    We host lectures and symposiums featuring leading Harvard professors and scientists on topics, such as the law and ethics of artificial intelligence in neuroscience, human altruism in political conflict, and the science of rationality. Past speakers include experimental psychologist Steven Pinker and cognitive psychologist Talia Konkle.

  • Social Events

    In addition to our academic events, our well-attended spring and fall socials allow students to connect over meals and dessert. We hold several informal gatherings every semester to provide our members with opportunities to build life-long connections with like-minded peers.

  • The Harvard Brain

    The Harvard Brain is an undergraduate academic journal with an international readership dedicated to the study of mind, brain, and behavior. New issues of the journal are published semesterly and include original research in MBB fields, interviews with experts, thought pieces, and book reviews. The Harvard Brain also hosts an interdisciplinary research competition for high school students, Fusion Research Challenge, to fundraise for a charitable organization—learn more about FusionRC here.
